SCM3690 Global Supply Chain Logistics
Credit Hours: 3 Hours

Course Mission: This trip is to grow future global supply chain managers interested in doing business in Spain via exciting, exhilarating learning experiences.

Course Description: This course will focus on the complete supply chain “cradle to grave” within the context of the wine and clothing industries.  Working in coordination with Universidad Europea de Madrid, we will explore the wine industry in Spain. The goal is to go well beyond providing a contextual knowledge of wine and apparel supply chains by providing extensive opportunities for experiential learning.  Before the 10-day trip, students will first study global supply chain strategies of Baronía de Turís winery & Zara Inc. and then visit those two companies in Spain to learn about how these two companies implement their marketing strategies. During company visits, students will discuss with supply chain managers of these two companies and learn about their SCM challenges and opportunities. In addition, students will meet with distributors to learn about issues associated with global supply chain logistics in these two industries. After the trip, student groups will be asked to present their findings on Baronía de Turís and Zara's global supply chains.

Course Goals and Learning Outcomes: Seminars at both universities provide an overview of the international challenges and opportunities associated with doing business in a global context, outside the US domestic market, and specifically in Spain.  In particular, we will focus on developing a practical introduction to and working knowledge of the business environment within both countries. You will learn practical communication tools and develop a range of effective interpersonal strategies for communication with the focus on business and social etiquette, attitudes towards time, negotiating practices, relationship building, leadership, motivation and teambuilding.
